Okada riders kill man over fare in Kwara
A man, Moshood Suleiman, was last week killed following a disagreement with a commercial motorcycle operator, popularly called Okada man, over a fare in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Sources told our correspondent that trouble started when the victim, a fish vendor in the Fate, highlighted from the Okada after which a disagreement ensued between him and the Okada man over the fee.
A witness said, “Initially, they were arguing over the fare which later led to a disagreement and other Okada operators who had massed around them started beating him.
“He ran and was pursued only to be ambushed in the front of a filling station until one of his family members who learnt about the development came to rescue him.”
The deceased’s sister, Oyindamola, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said, “A Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) team that was fortunate to pass through the area at the time arrested three of the Okada riders.
“My brother gave up the ghost at the Ilọrin General Hospital where he was rushed to.
“But we want justice to be served and those involved fished out and punished. My brother cannot die like that in vain. Our family wants justice in the matter.”
Contacted on Tuesday, the spokesman of the NSCDC, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, confirmed the incident and said the matter had been taken over by the police.
The police spokesman in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, said he was yet to be briefed, adding that, “I will find out and get back to you.”
