Kwara: Association Elects Journalist, Akanbi As President-General

The Gamji Members Association (GAMA), Kwara State chapter has elected Journalist and Voice of Nigeria (VON) Correspondent, Tunde Akanbi as the new President-General of the Association

The GAMA is an association whose members are committed to the promotion of ideals and legacies of the late premier of northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto.

The election of the new executives followed the expiration of the tenure of Professor Abubakar Ibrahim- led executive.

The new President-General was the former Deputy Director General of GAMA, other members of the executives are; Usman Jubril ( Deputy President General), Abdullahi Yusuf ( Director of Administration), Yusuf Manjo ( Director of Finance), Barrister H.O Buhari ( Legal Adviser), Abdullahi Olesin ( Director Of Publicity) and Prof Abubakar Ibrahim ( Ex- officio).

In his acceptance speech, the new President General of the Association, Akanbi thanked the members of the association for the confidence reposed in him and for ensuring a smooth transition from the immediate past executives to the new executives.

He rolled out a 9-point agenda that would be pursued by his administration which are; synergy with the Kwara State government under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to restore the lost glory of Kwara among the committee of states and ensure that it occupies its rightful place in northern Nigeria.

Others include the implementation of deliberate policies geared towards uniting members of GAMA, creative initiatives designed to promote and sustain enduring leadership vision and qualities of late Sardauna and attract key northern elders, leaders and members from across the country to Ilorin, Kwara State.

The new President General used the opportunity to congratulate the Executive Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on his re-election for a second term of office, assuring him of the continued support of GAMA.

In his remarks, the immediate past President General of the association, Prof Abubakar Ibrahim thanked members of the association for the opportunity given him to run the affairs of the union for over a decade and assured the new executives of his maximum support.

In their separate remarks, two leaders of GAMA, Mohammed Ghali Alaaya and Saadu Salahu, congratulated the new executives and praised the outgone executives for their selfless services to the union.

Alaaya and Salahu, however, charged the new executives to hit the ground running with the implementation of innovative and creative activities that would further promote the leadership ideals and vision of the late sage, Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
