Monrach Commends Nigerian Government For Establishing Education Commission
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, of Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari has praised the Nigerian Government for establishing the National Secondary School Education Commission, NSSEC.
According to the first class Monarch, the commission in line with one of its key functions will reposition the secondary school graduates for global competitiveness.
The Emir said that “the commission would also improve the performance of teachers and students particularly in handling external examinations in core subjects like English language and Mathematics.”
Gambari commended the Commission for bringing the 5-day capacity building workshop in Ilorin, stressing that such programme will further improve students and even the teachers to fill the gap in the core subjects.
He added that the activities of the commission would add a lot of value to what is happening in the education sector most especially at the secondary school levels in various states.
The Chairperson of the commission, Ambassador Nimota Akanbi had briefed the Emir on the activities of the commission and what it has achieved since it was inaugurated.
Ambassador Akanbi said that part of the functions of the Commission is “to produce senior secondary school graduates with life skills and relevant academic qualifications for further studies.”
According to her, since the existence of the commission, it has engaged in several activities such as data capturing of all the senior secondary schools in Nigeria.
She explained that the core mandate and functions of the commission are to prescribe the national minimum standard for education and intervene in senior secondary education and reposition the sector to be the right standard with their counterparts globally.
Ambassador Akanbi commended the people of Kwara State for their hospitality in hosting the training workshop.
She was accompanied to the Emir’s palace by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Professor Benjamin Abakpa and other stakeholders.
