Seadogs campaign for girl’s child education in Kwara rural school
Seadogs Association of Nigeria (SAN) otherwise known as Pyrates Confreternity, Friday took a campaign for promotion of Girl’s Child Education to Government Secondary School, Afon, in Asa local government area of Kwara state.
The association also donated writing materials to female students and advocated for free education from primary to secondary schools in the country.
The campaign was part of activities lined up to commemorate the 70 years anniversary of the formation of the association in Nigeria.
Captain of the deck, Adeoolu Sayomi, in his address at the occasion said members of the association were out to inspire the girl- child in the rural communities to embrace education as a way to attaining leadership.
He said the association was also keen at ensuring that the girl child have equal opportunity to access quality education with their male counterparts in line with SDGs 3 and 4.
Sayomi urged the students to “speak out” in case they suffer any form of abuse.
Speaking on the topic, “Girl’s Child Education in Nigeria,” former consultant with DFiA, Dr. Adeymi Medupin, advocated free education from primary to secondary schools in public schools in Nigeria.
He shared pictures and quotes of many national and world leaders to inspire the female students that being a girl child is not a barrier to attaining any feat in all disciplines including military, academic, politics, ,sports and entertainment.
“There is time for everything. You should first wear the academic gown followed by wedding gown before wearing maternity gawn,” she said.
