Odegha wins "Kwara@50" Open Golf Championship as gov. Ahmed, Lalong battle Oyinlola, others.
Sunday Odegha on Friday won the professional players’ competition at the “Kwara at 50’’ Open Golf Championship holding at the Ilorin Golf Club.
Odegha, an assistant professional at the Minna Cantonment Golf Club, closed his final round game with an impressive 68 four under par. It helped him to extend his lead by four shots, ahead of the field of 46 players who made the last two rounds.
“This event is a very tough one going by the number of big names that showed up here.
“I believe it was my focus that kept me going. I am glad that I have won,’’ Odegha said after the game.
Sunday Olopade of MicCom Golf Club returned the round of the day with his 66 six under to pick the second place, with Mike Ubi to finish in third place. The event has a total purse of 25, 000 US Dollars for the professionals who were 138 in number when the game teed off on Tuesday.
The amateur round of the competition gets underway on Saturday with Kwara’s Gov. Abdufatah Ahmed and his Plateau counterpart, Simon Lalong, taking on other dignitaries. Such distinguished include the President-elect of Nigeria Golf Federation, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who is expected to lead the field of over 200 players.
