Governor commends military on fight against insurgency

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has commended the Nigeria Army and other security agencies for their bravery in the fight against insurgency in the country.

The governor gave the commendation in Ilorin, when he received the new commandant, 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigeria Army, Sobi, Brig-Gen. Sulaiman Idris, and the out-going commandant, Brig-Gen. Benjamin Sawyerr, in his office. He reiterated his readiness to continue to strengthen the relationship with security organisations in the state.

According to Ahmed, the Nigeria Army is a pride to the nation and has demonstrated competence to secure the nation against internal and external aggression.

"Given the enabling environment, the Army has the capacity to protect and secure the country," the governor said. Ahmed eulogised the out-going commandant as someone who had truly demonstrated professionalism.

He said that Sawyerr was able to strengthen security in the state and created interface between the military and the civilian team, especially during the communal clash in Share/Tsaragi.

The governor promised to give needed support to security agencies in the state in order to make their job easier, enhance peace and promote development.

Earlier, Sawyerr recalled that the brigade had at different times arrested wanted Boko Haram suspects as part of efforts to keep the state safe from insurgents. He assured the governor that the brigade would always enhance safety and security in Kwara.

Also speaking, Idris gave an assurance that the army brigade would continue to be diligent in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.NAN
