Kwara To Blend Western, Islamic Education Curricular
Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has said that his administration will harmonise western and Islamic principles in the school curriculum to promote religious harmony.
Ahmed made the statement in Ilorin on Monday at the 12th graduation ceremony of Darul Kitab Sunnah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.
The governor, who was represented by his Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Mohammed Atolagbe, said the action would further promote religious tolerance in the state.
The governor said his administration had already set the machinery in motion to perfect the harmonisation in such a way that the curriculum would be acceptable to all.
"We want to harmonise western and Islamic education in such a way that everybody that goes to Islamic school can be brought in line with western education.
"Government is also prepared to issue dual certificate to students by the time the harmonisation of the two education systems is completed," Ahmed said.
He commended the proprietor of Darul Kitab Wa Sunnah College, Dr AbdulQuadri Solagberu for running a free education programme in the school.
The governor described the gesture of the proprietor as complementary to the state government’s pragmatic approach to make education accessible to all. .
In his remark, the Provost of the College, Dr. Faozy Fazazy, said that the college was graduating 379 students.
He explained that the college placed emphasis on skill acquisition and moral education so that the graduates could be self-employed. (NAN)
