Kwara Government to assist victims of Owode market fire
The Kwara state government says it would reconstruct the ancient Owode Market in Offa area of the statethrough a public-private-partnership scheme.
The market was recently engulfed by fire.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's Media and Communications Aide, Muyideen Akorede described the incident as devastating and urged the people to be more proactive and conscious in the handling of electrical appliances to forestall future occurrence.
Meanwhile, Akorede encouraged State-owned media organisations in the State to seek other innovative models to improve their income generating capacity.
Akorede who is the Chairman, Sub-Committee on Publicity, for the inauguration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, said this would assist them to meet up with their ever increasing obligations and to continually stay above board without over-relying on subventions from government.
The Governor’s aide however said in recognition of the contribution of media organisations to the socio-economic development of the state through its reportage and programming, government remained committed to supporting them all the way.
He described governance as ineffective without effective communication with the people, commending the media for bridging the gap to regularly inform the public about the activities and policies of government.
Akorede assured the media of improved relationship with them, adding that as soon as its finances improved, all its plans for the media would be brought to fruition.
