Kwara Police Chief whisked to Abuja
An Assistant Commissioner of Police attached to the Crime Investigation Department, Kwara State Police Command (name withheld) was last week reportedly whisked to Abuja over the alleged kidnappers' vehicle found in his house.
The embattled ACP, according to security sources, was arrested by a Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad from the Police Headquarters, Abuja, following a tip off.
National Pilot gathered that some suspected kidnappers kidnapped a victim from Ekiti State and dumped their operations Hilux van at Tanke, Ilorin, following the death of its driver in the process.
The abandoned vehicle, the source said, had a tracker, which aided in tracing when it was abandoned.
The embattled police chief, it was gathered, allegedly ordered his men to evacuate the abandoned vehicle to his house before the arrival of the special federal anti-robbery squad from Abuja.
The source hinted that immediately the squad arrived the state, its members reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where the embattled ACP was working.
The arrested ACP, said to be of south-eastern extraction, the source alleged, told the squad that the wanted Hilux was marked at the 'A Division', Ilorin and later ordered his 'boys' to move it away from his house.
But the squad, it was further gathered tracked the vehicle to his house where the gateman, told the squad that the vehicle was his boss' latest car, which he, intended to take to the village.
The squad then left Ilorin for Abuja, where they were alleged to have submitted their report to the IG’s office where the arrest of the ACP was ordered.
The ACP, who the source said would soon retire, was whisked to Abuja by the squad in handcuffs.
When contacted last night, the command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, said he was not aware of the arrest of any ACP.
