Governor Saraki endorses sanction of erring PDP members
Dr. Saraki handed down the warning at the weekend while speaking at an interactive session with party leaders, elders and supporters at the Charity Home, Iloffa road, G.R.A., Ilorin.
The Governor, who expressed displeasure over the attitude of some party members, cautioned that the party would no longer condone any act of indiscipline.
His words; "The Chairman and other executive members of the party have now been empowered to clamp down heavily on any erring member of the party to arrest the incessant acts of indiscipline exhibited by certain members whose interests are not in tandem with the party objectives".
"From now on, the chairman has been mandated to impose stringent sanction on any erring member and when he does, nobody would come to the rescue of such erring member, so you are all warned in your own interest to desist from rumour mongering or other acts capable of tarnishing the good image of the party".
"Long before now, the Chairman would have shown some bad eggs within the party the red card but we were just appealing to him to continue to be lenient, but let me assure you all that the saving grace was now over, as anyone who misbehaves now would be shown the way out of the party".
Dr Saraki, who also explained that the party’s constitution was explicit enough on indiscipline, directed members to go back to their various wards and work together for the overall success of the party.
The welfare of members of the party, the governor said, would continued to be accorded priority attention but cautioned that they must show sufficient decorum and respect for the party’s leadership.
He also stressed the importance of membership registration card, pointing out that more membership card would soon be made available by the National Secretariat of the party and enjoined those yet to register to ensure that they obtain their membership card in earnest.
In his opening remark, the PDP Chairman in the State, Alhaji Yusuf Ayedun appealed to party members to register and obtain their voters’ card, saying it was the only document that would enable them to exercise their civic responsibility during election.
Alhaji Ayedun also urged members to attend ward meetings regularly and get prepared for the forthcoming Local Government election in the State.
In his sectoral report, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Abdulrauf Kola Shittu had disclosed that over 600 Kilometres rural roads have been slated for construction in all the 16 Local Government Councils this year with at least 30 km. in each local government.
Engr. Shittu disclosed further that more township roads cutting across the three Senatorial Districts would also be constructed while assuring that the Post-Office flyover bridge and other on-going road projects would soon be ready for commissioning at the end of this month.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi had hinted that another batch of 105 rural communities are currently undergoing the process of rural electrification with 50 communities already completed while work had reached 90% completion on 30 others.
Work on the remaining 25 communities would be completed in the next four weeks, Abdullahi assured, adding that additional 49 new transformers have been procured to improve power supply in the rural areas.
