OPINION: Kwara 2015: Talba Ngeri has it. By Aladie Bolaji Nasrudeen
To have a successful outing in such a post, one needs to be humble enough in order to get the nods of other colleagues one is leading by just a divine grace because many among them are more qualified to be in that same position. One must be extra careful and patient to be able to carry along people who are of high temper because they are like bile which can spoil the taste of beef if it is not separated carefully. Other qualities that can make one's name to be remembered after expiration of one's tenure are being accessible to people, having a listening ear so that one can be advised by both the old and young, learned and unlearned and even be corrected by both experts and novice as no one is too great to fall and nobody is too trivial to underrate.
As Kwara state is now inching closer to its liberation from the grip of political lords who are milking its resources for their personal use, who are siphoning its treasury to enrich themselves and their family while others are languishing in pains, poverty and agony. We need to get it right without iota of sentiment and obsession by supporting a man that has been tested in human and society administration and who did not betrayed the confidence and trusts reposed in his ability to delivered.
The man in question is no other person than the one and only Professor of English Literature in our liberation camp, I mean Prof. S.O AbdulRaheem. No one can deny the fact that this wonderful man performed creditably well in the five years he used in serving the Nigerian Number 1 varsity, Unilorin from 1997-2002. Even many people still believe that he is the pathfinder of of uninterrupted academic calendar that the school is now widely known for. What of peaceful environment that is devoid of aluta, violence and moral decadence which is now the trademark of the school ? Prof AbdulRaheem laid the foundation of such wonderful serene environment. Even the better by far nickname of the school was christened by no other person than this amiable lecturer of many great personalities in this country, the feats was as result of legacies he laid down while he was the number one staff of the school.
To have a successful five years tenure as a VC in Unilorin is not a juvenile show, it is something that one has to work assiduously for with total commitment and dedication and that was what Talba Ngeri did. His achievements are not down to any leader but God and the wonderful people who made his work and administration easy while he was on the throne. So, to have a tested personality like Prof Oba vying for the post of governor of our state at this dire moment we are is a blessing and not a curse if we do not mince words.
Talba was among the first set of people who took front row in the earlier days of liberation struggles, he is the only one who has effontry to question Mr Saraki when others were seeing him as unquestionable being. Prof displayed gallantry to reveal to Kwarans that Saraki and his cronies are not demons who can not be defeated and put to shame, that is why he was able to get a return ticket to Federal Character Commission against Saraki's wish and will. Professor Oba Abu emergence in political field came at as when needed most. This is because he is among rescuers to put in our sicken mind a hope that we can dictate our own tunes, plan our destinies and have it better without pass or anointing from any lord a battle and cause ignited, initiated and started by our noble admiral of freedom Alh Muhammad Alabi Lawal of blessed memory.
Fellow Kwaran, let's get it right this time around. We had the chance in 2011 but we squandered it. But now that we have in our midst people like Talba, Alh Oba Ajara and Sen Ajadi who played vital roles in our failed mission to send the black sheep among us to wolf's den. We must not allow candidate allegiance to divide us in our struggle. Let's us embrace unity and support a candidate who can make a difference in spate of little time and togetherness we shall send Bukola Saraki and his boys to political grave.
